Frequently Asked Questions
FAQ
What’s therapy like?
Therapy feels different for everyone. Many people experience therapy as space-space to speak, space to explore, space to ask hard questions, space to feel, space to connect, space to reflect and space to simply be. Sometimes therapy feels awkward at the beginning as we settle into a new way of being with ourselves and telling our story. That’s normal.
We’ll spend the first session covering what you can expect from the therapeutic process and what brings you to therapy at this time. I work collaboratively to ensure we move into the issues that matter most to you.
What’s your approach to therapy?
My approach is grounded in contemporary psychoanalytic and attachment-based theories that emphasize the intersubjective, here-and-now experience between two (or more) people as a conduit for healing developmental wounds. I’m influenced as a practitioner by the work of Tricia Hersey, Virginia Satir, Carl Rogers, Thema Bryant, and Hillary McBride, among many others.
In short: I believe we heal from relational wounds in and through relationship.
And research agrees. While theories and modalities matter, studies repeatedly show it’s the relationship between the therapist and client that makes a healing difference. You can read more about this research here if you’d like.
Given what we know about the importance of the therapeutic relationship, I want to ensure that I’m the right fit for your healing journey. When you’re ready to reach out, we will schedule a free, 15-minute phone or video consultation to feel out our connection and begin exploring what brings you therapy. If I’m not the best fit for your needs, I’ll gladly connect you to other clinicians in my network who may be.
How much does therapy cost?
The fee for an individual session is $175.
The fee for a couple, group, or family session is $200.
I accept all major credit cards.
I can provide necessary documents like a superbill if you plan to work with your insurance provider to receive reimbursement.
I’m glad to talk through your unique financial situation during a consultation. I reserve a few sliding scale spots for those who are unable to pay a full fee.
How long does therapy last?
I offer 50-minute sessions on a weekly basis. Some people come to therapy for a few months to navigate a difficult season. Others seek a longer term therapeutic relationship to recuperate from more complex issues. No two healing journeys are the same. I honor your pace and will check in from time to time to ensure your needs are being met.
